Carpenter Ant Queen’s Nest

If you are doing remodeling on your home and you find a nest of carpenter ants when you remove some drywall, get out the vacuum cleaner.  Vacuum up all of the ants that you possibly can.   This is a satillite nest.  Unless there is a good amount of moisture present it will be too dry for a Queen Ants nest.   There must be nearly 100% moisture for carpenter ant eggs to survive.  There is no cuticle on the carpenter ant egg or the first instars of larval development.  (The cuticle is a waxy material that keeps moisture inside of the ant.)   After a few instars of larva development a cuticle will form, then they can be transported into a dry environment.  Read the rest of this entry »

Broadleaved Weed Control

Dandelions in a lawn are a good example of broad leaved weed control.  This is usually best done in May, June, July, August or September.  Dandelions are usually seen in late March, April or the first part of May.  It can also be done if the main grass has gone dormant.  When the grass comes back in the fall you will be free of dandelions.   If you want a treatment to kill dandelions, please call us at 1-360-457-4341 or 1-800-828-5508.

Weed Control Before The Weeds Emerge

Weed control should be done for residual weed control.  Weeds are much easier to control if we control them before they emerge.  We can apply materials that keep the weed from coming up.  Some materials actually burn off the foliage as it is emerging. We can control weeds after they emerge.  Then a product can be put on to keep them from being a prolem. Weed Control Needs Eight Inches of Leaf Surface

Residual Weed Control

Weed “Popper”

I don’t have the name of this little weed, but it is one of the most bothersome little varmits there is.  It produces seed shortly after blooming and when the seed pod is touched it explodes seeds in all directions.  If anyone knows the name of this thing please call me or leave a comment on this blog.  We know how to control it.  If you are having a problem with this weed, please give us a call at 457-4341 or 1-900-828-5508.
