Dome home insulated with Icynene

This photograph shows a Dome Home insulated with The Icynene Insulation System®.

This home was built in 2007.  It is basicly a kit that is manufactured in California.  They usually recommend that Icynene insulation be installed in these homes.  The reason is that Icynene is an air barrier that prevents water vapor, dissolved in the air, from flowing into the void between the sheathing and the drywall. This keeps the water from germinating the spores for fungus rot and mold.  Preventing mold is one of the primary benefits of using Icynene.  Fiber insulation on the other hand allows moisture to be present and allows mold to form.

A heat recovery ventilation system is used to take the water out of the structure as a liquid.  Taking the water out as a liquid rather than a vapor releases the heat that was in the vapor back into the house.  If you would likemore information on Icynene Insulation please call 457-4341 or 1-800-828-5508.

Icynene is Pest Control

Icynene Insulation

Icynene is ecellent pest control.  Icynene is also the best insulation one can get.  It cannot do the whole job of pest control by itself, but it is one of the best tools that we can use that approaches pest control from a more environmentally friendly way.  It is perfect at exclusion.  That means it keeps the bugs out (except for Wasps).  It also keeps the bats and birds out of the structure.  What it is most famous for is that it keeps the  moisture out of the wall voids.  Moisture that is water, dissolved in the air as humidity.  This water is in the “vapor” state.  The molecular state or two atoms of Hydrogen combined with one atom of Oxygen.  That makes it very small and it can go through (between) the molecules of drywall when it is dissolved in the air.   When it hits the dew point inside of the wall it turns into liquid water.  This means that with Icynene there will not be water in the wall void to allow mold of fungus rot to form.  Fungus rot spores are everywhere on everything.  All they need is water.  Fiber insulation (fiberglass or cellulose) on the other hand furnishes a surface for the mold to form.  The mold will also form on the sheathing and the studs which provide the food for the mold or fungus rot organism.  Icynene is also twice as good of an insulator as fiberglass or cellulose besides preventing mold and insect and animal pests. Icynene is not food for the mold or fungus rot organism.  Drywall paper is, wood is and so is the sheathing.  Odorous house ants cannot make their nest in a wall filled with Icynene.  If you need Icynene insulation please call us at 457-4341 or 1-800-828-5508.

ICYNENE in Clallam, Jefferson & Western Washington

This blob of Icynene Insulation shows that an air hole has been plugged.  No more will air and heat be allowed to flow out of the structure.  ICYNENE Insulation can be done in almost any County in Western Washington.  With the new funds being available for energy conservation, Icynene should be one of the first products to consider.  It will cut your energy bills in half when compared with fiberglass or cellulose fiber.  Icynene stops moisture vapor from entering the walls.  Moisture often moves through the drywall, fiber insulation and turns into liquid water when it reaches the dewpoint.  There is no ventilation in the wall to take the moisture out.

Icynene can be injected through a 1/2 inch hole into wall voids that have never had any insulation installed.  It can be sprayed between the studs of a new home.  It can be sprayed on the underlayment of the roof.  It can also be sprayed in the underhouse carwlspace between the joists.  If you  would like a bid for your home just call us at 457-4341 or 1-800-828-5508.

Icynene

Icynene LD-R-50 is our new formulation of Icynene.  It will save you 50% over using fiberglass or cellulose insulation.  That helps pay for the difference in cost.  Installing Icynene will pay for the difference in cost in 4 – 5 years.  At a time when energy costs are skyrocketing it just makes sence to use Icynene.  Icynene LD-R-50 uses oil from the Castor bean rather than petroleum products.  It is more stable than Soy oil.  At the present time Olympic Spray Service is using the Classic LD-C-50 as it is still considered a very good green product.   It is far more effective than any fiber insulation because it does not leak air.  Icynene is an “air-barrier”.  For more information you may call us at 457-4341 or 1-800-828-5508.  You may also read other articles by going to the column in the right had side of the blog and click on the desired category.

Icynene Insulation is an Air Barrier

If you are considering Icynene for insulation  of your home, please consider the following:  Icynene will cut your heating bill in half.  You do not have to do an air seal as the Icynene does that automatically as we install it.  You can use one-half the heating system.  You should use one-half the air conditioning system. Do not use the largest system as recommended by the engineers.  You do not need to install ventilators in the roof, soffits or roof jacks.  (That is required for fiber insulation as it leaks air.)  You should consider a Heat Recovery Ventialtion system. (Preferably one with a HEPA Fliter system.  Read the rest of this entry »

The Icynene Insulation System

Icynene Insulation installed in a wall.

Icynene Insulation

The Icynene Insulation System is fairly new to the Olympic Peninsula.  We have been doing it for a little over six years (6 yrs.).  Icynene is a two part foam material that expands 100:1 when it is applied.  It expands to fill all of the nooks and cranies where air could get into the wall void.  It will cut your heating bill in half.  This is sufficient to pay for the extra cost of the installation within five years.
