It is time to do the first treatment (OPPT) on your structure. It is warm enough for the ants to be active. Carpenter ants eat liquid food. They like plant nectars so are getting the nectars from flowers of blooming trees and plants.  They may be eating syrups or “Pop can dregs” in your home.  They also like liquids that maybe in your garbage. In about 2 weeks it will be time for the carpenter ant reproductives to fly.   The males come out first to determine if it is time to fly.  When they determine that the time is right they release a pheromone that tells the female reproductives that it is time to fly out and mate.  This is called the nuptual flight.  Read the rest of this entry »
