Do not allow drilling of holes in your siding. It is not necessary to drill holes in the siding to control carpenter ants. If a Pest Control Firm wants to drill holes in your siding….hang up on them, they are using obsolete technology. These people are not following the recommended ways to control carpenter ants.
Drilling holes voids your warantee on the siding. Hardie Plank, Vinyl Siding, Metal Siding, or Synthetic siding will void your warantee if holes are drilled in them. Drilling holes requires a Contractors license. Contact the Department of Labor and Industries to see if they have a contractors license.
Most often a well applied outside perimeter preventive treatment (OPPT) is all that is needed. If a nest is located within the structure it is necessary to repeat the treatment within 60 to 90 days. This treatment should also be done the following year as pheromones have been left in the house, by the ants, that will attract more ants to return to the structure.
