Cedar Boughs Touching the Roof

Cedar boughs touching the roof are a carpenter ant problem.  The carpenter ants can move directly from the building to the boughs.  Cedar provides a tremendous food source for the ant.  The ants will eat any exudate or plant juices from this tree.  If there are aphids the ants will feed directly from the aphid. They then carry this food down to the larva they are feeding.  A Cedar tree is often where a carpenter ant Queen’s nest will be found.  The nest will be at ground level so that it gets nearly 100% humidity.
