The phone will soon be ringing off of the hook for carpenter ant calls. First is when the sun comes out and the male carpenter ants come out and fly around. The male ants are trying to determine if it is time to start the nuptual flight. Often the sun will go away and the males will go back into their nests. If theydetermine that it is time to go out for their nuptual flight they will release a pheromone that signals the females that it is time to fly. The females will come out and they will “tie up” end to end with the males. They will fly around like dragon flies connected together. You may or may not be able to see them in flight, if you do see them give us a call, we apprecialte help from our customers. Call 457-4341, 379-3862 or 1-800-828-5508.
Water in the Crawlspace
Water cannot be allowed to be in your underhouse crawlspace. The woodendebris should also be removed. The vapor from this water will migrate up through the subfloor and floor into your living space. From there it will move through the drywall and into the wall voids. There the water vapor will reach the dewpoint which means it will turn back into liquid water. The liquid water in touch with the structural wood will raise the moisture content of the wood to where it can rot. It cah also provide the moisture that insects need for their survival. The water must be drained out, The wooden debris must be removed. A six mil plastic film vapor barrier must be installed over the soil and water present in the underhouse crawlspace.
